About the Day On 11 October 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. The 2025 Global Theme is: “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis.” At YouthUp Global, we are joining the global call by hosting this Commemoration Webinar, bringing together changemakers, advocates, and youth leaders to spotlight the resilience, leadership, and innovation of the African girl child. Keynote Address Theme: “The Girl Child as a Change-Maker: Building Africa’s Future through Leadership and Innovation.” Delivered by Ms. Sola, an accomplished leader passionate about girl child empowerment, the keynote will inspire participants to reimagine girls not as victims of circumstance but as active leaders, innovators, and builders of Africa’s future. Panel Discussion Theme: “From Barriers to Breakthroughs: African Girls Leading Change in a Digital World.” This dynamic panel will feature YouthUp Global leaders and external experts unpacking how African girls are breaking limitations and shaping the digital future. Discussions will explore: Empowering young women with digital skills and mentorship through the DigitizeHer Campaign (empowering 10,000 African girls in STEM and digital careers). Creating opportunities for young women in education and employment via the Utídia Study and Work Program. Breaking systemic barriers and sharing real-life success stories of African girls rising as community leaders.
