Summary:

The Fitness Specialist position is responsible for delivering best-in-class Fitness and Wellness Services to Discovery Senior Living Residents, Clients, and team members, further positioning DAH for continued growth and profitability by providing Fitness and Wellness services to help older adults attain and/ or maintain their highest possible level of fitness. The role entails primarily fitness and wellness program delivery for residents and clients in collaboration with therapy services, Senior living community management, and DAH leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designated as a Fitness Specialist to the Community and team members.
  • Maintains timely and accurate files, records, billing, and documentation.
  • Prescribe individualized exercise programs to maintain/increase fitness and functional levels after a patient's discharge from rehabilitation services. Collaborates and, in conjunction with rehabilitation services as appropriate.
  • Prescribe and perform individual and group exercise/ fitness programs for clients and residents independently.
  • Perform a Fitness assessment after reviewing pertinent medical history to establish baseline fitness status, create goals, and a fitness plan.
  • Collaborate with leadership and clinical education teams to enhance client care.
  • Participate/lead health and wellness events to provide learning and engagement opportunities for residents/family.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Certification as a personal trainer through an accredited organization (ACE, NASM, etc.) and/or has earned a degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or a related field with relevant experience.
  • CPR certification

Preferred

  • Previous experience working with older adults.

TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND SOFTWARE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer applications Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office,including Microsoft Outlook.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of gym equipment, safety.

  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with Residents/ clients, Team Members, and business contacts in a professional, timely and courteous manner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice
  • Strong trouble resolution and problem-solving skills
