The Position

Our client is seeking to fill a Mortgage Loan Underwriter role located in the greater Birmingham, AL market. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing credit and property analysis on conventional loan files, ensuring compliance with appropriate company and investor standards. Also making final loan decisions within written approval authority in accordance with appropriate guidelines

This position comes with a generous salary of up to $78K and full benefits package. (This is primarily a remote position.)

Mortgage Underwriter responsibilities include:

• Underwriting 1st mortgage, 2nd mortgage, construction, bridge, and home equity loans.
• Performing timely reviews of loan submissions and conditions.
• Reviewing income and asset verification of applicants per underwriting guidelines.
• Analyzing credit, collateral and accompanying documents to render sound credit decisions.
• Examining loan documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Analyzing complex financial reports/documents to determine applicant income and ability to repay the loan.
• Assessing applicant(s) credit to adhere to all regulatory, compliance and investor requirements.
• Maintaining a current understanding of various documentation types, loan programs, as well as all overall general underwriting guidelines.
• Meeting production, quality and service standards along with providing feedback to ensure quality.
• Assessing appraisal, title reports and other documents frequent to mortgage lending.
• Underwriting in accordance with private mortgage insurance.
• Reviewing all loan documents for accuracy.
• Serving on the Saturday schedule rotation schedule as necessitated by management.
• Providing information and support to the processing team as needed regarding loan guidelines.

You also bring the following skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in finance or accounting.
• Three or more years’ experience in underwriting credit and property.
• Conventional Underwriting expert and/or Proficient in FHA/VA.
• DE certified underwriters preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively make decisions in an independent manner.
• Good organizational skills to accommodate involvement in multiple areas.
• Ability to work with people in an efficient and friendly manner.
• Ability to assess complex information in a timely manner.
• Proficient in Encompass loan origination system.
• Knowledge of Secondary marketing pricing.
• Ability to utilize personal computers and Windows driven programs.
