The role of a HEMS pilot requires both technical skill and excellent teamwork. You must be able to manage rapid shifts in workload—from calm periods to acute situations—at any hour, day or night. This is a job where you will regularly encounter patients in critical conditions. Good judgment, emotional resilience, and a strong commitment to flight safety are crucial.

Minimum requirements

Captains:

• Full ATPL(H), or CPL(H) with ATPL(H) theory and MCC course
• IR/SE(H) or IR/ME(H), and ≥ 100 hours IFR
• ≥ 3000 hours total flight time, including ≥ 1500 hours on helicopters
• ≥ 1000 hours PIC time on helicopters
• ≥ 200 hours night flying
• Valid Class 1 Medical
• Minimum LPR 5 in a Scandinavian language (preferably Swedish) and in English

Co-pilots:

• CPL(H) with ATPL(H) theory, or full ATPL(H)
• IR/SE(H) or IR/ME(H)
• MCC course completed by the time of employment
• ≥ 1000 hours total helicopter flight time
• ≥ 20 hours night flying
• Valid Class 1 Medical
• Minimum LPR 5 in a Scandinavian language (preferably Swedish) and in English

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Type rating on AW139, AW169 and/or H145
• Experience with multi-engine helicopters and multi-crew operations
• IFR flying and/or HEMS background
• NVIS operations and advanced night flying
• Utility operations, winter conditions and mountain flying
• SAR operations and/or hoist experience

Core competencies

• Someone who is responsible, composed, and well-organized.
• Extensive experience in helicopter piloting, preferably including utility or mission-based operations, and confident in making sound operational decisions in dynamic situations.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work in close-knit teams.
• Fluent in a Scandinavian language (preferably Swedish), both spoken and written, and a good English proficiency.

Recruitment Process

Interviews and assessments will take place in Stockholm in September. Candidates who pass the recruitment process but are not immediately offered a position may be contacted for future openings (applications will be stored for up to 2 years).

To be eligible, you must pass a security screening with no criminal record. For bases located on military premises, Swedish citizenship is required. A stretcher-carrying test in terrain will be conducted for all candidates.

Please bring a sealed criminal record certificate to your interview.

Note: This certificate may take up to two weeks to obtain, so please request it well in advance via the Swedish Police website .
