Cost Accountant

Objective

The Cost Accountant position focuses on maintaining precise inventory valuation processes, implementing risk assessment protocols, and establishing financial controls that align with generally accepted accounting principles. This role supports accurate financial reporting through detailed cost analysis and inventory management within a dynamic business environment.

Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Analysis

• Examine inventory transactions to identify discrepancies and research unusual variances
• Evaluate inventory for obsolete and slow-moving components, establishing appropriate reserves
• Perform monthly reconciliation of ERP inventory reports against general ledger accounts
• Generate and process monthly journal entries for scrap material transactions
• Conduct monthly assessments of supplier-held inventory for accuracy verification
• Resolve negative quantity issues within perpetual inventory tracking systems
• Execute inventory price validation procedures to confirm valuation accuracy
• Maintain and update standard cost data within ERP systems

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Calculate monthly full absorption ratios and perform variance analysis against general ledger data
• Prepare corrective journal entries when required
• Deliver financial analysis support for monthly and annual financial statement preparation
• Develop performance measurement benchmarks for organizational assessment

Compliance & Audit Support

• Maintain compliance with established accounting policies for inventory processes
• Propose policy modifications when operationally necessary
• Oversee daily cycle count activities and participate in physical counting when required
• Support annual financial audits and comprehensive physical inventory procedures
• Execute additional accounting functions as business needs dictate

Requirements

Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent academic preparation

Professional Experience

• Background in accounting and financial analysis
• Manufacturing industry experience preferred
